How to pDF to PNG

  1. 1

    Open your document

Drag a PDF of up to 200 MB into the drop area, or click to browse for it. If the file is encrypted, enter its password when prompted.

  2. 2

    Choose the pixel density

In the Resolution control, select Screen · 72, Standard · 150 or Print · 300. Higher numbers give sharper, larger PNG files.

  3. 3

    Limit the pages if needed

Use the Pages field to list what you want, such as 1, 3-4. Leaving it blank exports the whole document.

  4. 4

    Export the PNG files

Click PDF to PNG. When rendering finishes, save images one at a time or use Download all (ZIP) to collect them in a single archive.

Lossless PDF to PNG conversion

PNG is the format designers, developers and technical writers reach for when an image has to look exactly right. It keeps every pixel intact, so small type, hairline borders, UI mockups and data charts come through without the blocky halos that lossy compression can introduce. Converting PDF pages to PNG is a quick way to reuse document content in slide decks, wikis, design files, bug reports and documentation.

This tool draws each selected page of your PDF at the density you pick and saves it as its own .png file, named with the original filename and page number. The page is reproduced as a viewer would show it, including embedded fonts, vector shapes and images.

Getting crisp results

A few habits make the output more useful:

  • Match resolution to destination. Screen · 72 suits small previews, Standard · 150 works for most documentation, and Print · 300 is the choice when someone will zoom in or print the image.
  • Export only what you need. Large page counts at high resolution add up fast. Entering a range like 4-6 keeps both processing time and total download size under control.
  • Crop before converting. If a page has wide margins you do not want in the image, trim them first with Crop PDF so the PNG frames only the content.

Private by design

Most online converters send your PDF to a server and email or display the result. Here the work is done by code running in your browser. The document is opened in local memory, rendered page by page on your own processor, and the finished images are written straight to your downloads. Nothing is uploaded, so internal diagrams, client drafts and unreleased designs never leave your machine.

Things to keep in mind

Lossless quality has a price, which is file size. A PNG of a photo-rich page can be noticeably heavier than a JPG of the same page, so if you are sending many images by email, PDF to JPG may be the more practical option.

The output is an image, so the words on the page become pixels. They cannot be selected, edited or found with search. When you need the actual text, use PDF to Text instead. Backgrounds are rendered as they appear in the PDF, which usually means solid white rather than transparent.

Have a batch of PNG screenshots you want to turn back into one document? PNG to PDF combines them in the order you choose. To pull a smaller set of pages out of a long file before converting, Split PDF can divide the document into separate parts.

Frequently asked questions

Is PDF to PNG better than PDF to JPG?

It depends on the content. PNG is lossless, so text, charts, line art and screenshots stay perfectly crisp. JPG makes smaller files and is often preferable for photo-heavy pages.

Does converting PDF to PNG reduce quality?

PNG compression never throws away detail, so every pixel is kept exactly as rendered. The only thing that controls sharpness is the resolution you choose, with Print · 300 giving the most detail.

Can I convert a PDF to PNG for free without an account?

Yes. There is no sign-up and no fee. You add the file, pick your settings and download the images straight away.

Do the PNG images have a transparent background?

Pages are rendered the way a PDF viewer displays them, which normally means a white page background. If you need transparency, you will have to remove the background in an image editor afterward.

Where do my files go during conversion?

Nowhere beyond your own device. The rendering engine runs in your browser tab, and the resulting PNG files are created locally and offered to you as downloads.

How big will the PNG files be?

Lossless files are larger than JPGs, and size grows quickly with resolution. A text page at 150 DPI is typically modest, while a full-color page at 300 DPI can be several megabytes.

Can I get just one page as a PNG?

Absolutely. Type that single page number in the Pages field, for instance 7, and only that page is exported. You then get one Download button instead of a ZIP.
